Description

Students brainstorm either a 2D or 3D game design idea for their final game project. As they polish their ideas, students will begin creating their game design document, define their game’s world and rules, and begin describing their game world.

  • Generate a game idea.
  • Describe their game concept and world.
  • Begin developing their game design document for their final game project.
Description

In this lesson, students learn about the storyboarding technique and what it’s like to be a storyboard artist at a game studio.

Objective

Students will be able to:

  • Explain what a storyboard is and how it’s used.
  • Create their own storyboard for an aspect of a video game.
  • Understand more about the storyboard artist role.
  • Create a storyboard for their final game project.
Description

Students focus their final game project design on player controls and defining the game mechanics that players will use in their game. They’ll receive and give constructive feedback to peers while refining their own game design document.

Students will be able to:

  • Define game mechanics that align with their game design
  • Describe how players will interact with their game
  • Provide and receive constructive feedback early in their game development process
  • Refine their game design document enough to begin developing a prototype
