MODULES - 10

  • La ciberseguridad y tú

In this module, students delve into key areas such as personal data collection, the reliability of online information, cyber ethics and laws, personal data security, cybersecurity essentials, and strategies to combat common cyber threats and their prevention, equipping individuals with the knowledge to navigate the digital landscape responsibly and securely.

In this project, students will create an escape room using what they have learned about ciphers and cryptography.

In this unit, students explore the structure and design of the internet and networks, and how this design affects the reliability of network communication, the security of data, and personal privacy. Students will learn how the Internet connects computers all over the world by use of networking protocols.

In this project, students explore cybersecurity career pathways and build skills that will be needed within these fields such as communication.

  • Seguridad de los datos

In this module, students will learn about the benefits and dangers of collecting and storing large sets of data. They will learn how to prevent attacks such as SQLi and XSS using programming controls. Students will also learn about risk management and how to identify, assess, prioritize, and minimize risks.

  • Proyecto: El juego del riesgo

In this project, students design and create a board game or a card game that will help players to identify randomized security vulnerabilities and their appropriate defenses.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What topics does Oklahoma Cybersecurity cover?

The course covers personal data and cyber ethics, cryptography and encryption, system administration, how networks and the internet work, computer hardware and infrastructure, and data security. Each area ends in a project, including designing an escape room built on ciphers and a risk management board game.

Do students need programming experience to take Oklahoma Cybersecurity?

No programming background is needed. The course is concept and lab driven rather than code driven. A supplemental Programming Fundamentals module is available if a teacher wants students to get some coding practice alongside the cybersecurity content.

Do students need physical hardware for the labs in this course?

No. The hands-on labs are written to work without equipment. The Computer Disassembly lab tells students directly that if they do not have a computer to take apart, they watch the video or read the article instead. Nothing in the course requires a hardware purchase.

Is there professional development for teachers new to cybersecurity?

Yes. Teaching Fundamentals of Cybersecurity is a 40 hour CodeHS professional development course built for teachers with no programming experience. It covers the skills, pedagogy, and resources needed to lead a cybersecurity class.

Can students prepare for a cybersecurity certification in this course?

Yes. The course includes a Cybersecurity Level 1 Certification Practice module with practice quizzes covering cybersecurity essentials, cryptography, system administration, IT concepts, IT infrastructure, and data security, plus a mixed practice test.
